How can I check that my three-phase installation is correct?

This section proposes a series of guidelines to verify the correct installation of the different Wibeee three-phase meters: Three-phase Box and Max, and to therefore ensure that the measurements and values shown on the platform correspond to those on the monitored circuit.

This section covers two key concepts:

  • Order of the clamps, referring to the sequence in which the system's clamps (1-2-3) have been placed with respect to the phases of the installation, for example: clamp connected to channel 1 on the system measures phase 1 of the installation.

  • Positioning of a clamp, indicates in which direction a clamp has been closed with respect to the cable.

1. Initial check during installation

Before you start checking the installation via the platform, you should check the following aspects of the installation for each of the meters:

For more information on how to recognise the three phases in a three-phase installation, you can refer to the following entry: How to identify the phases in a three-phase circuit

Three-phase box

  1. Check that the voltage connector is installed between phase 1 and the circuit's neutral cable. Never connect between phases, as the system may become damaged.

  2. Check that the clamp connected to channel 1 of the meter is installed on the cable corresponding to phase 1 (in Europe, usually brown), the same as the one chosen for the voltage.

It will not be possible to correct the channel 1 clamp from the App, so it is important to check during installation that it corresponds to the phase used to measure the voltage.

  1. Check that the additional clamps, connected to channels 2 and 3 of the Box, correspond in order to phases 2 and 3 of the installation.

  1. Check the orientation of the current clamps, so that the marked arrow is facing the direction of the cable's current.

  1. Ensure that the clamp's Jack connectors are properly inserted into the meter.

For more information, you can refer to the Three-phase Box Installation Manual .

Max

  1. Check that the voltage connectors are connected in order to the neutral cable (blue) and phases 1 (brown), 2 (black) and 3 (grey) of the installation.

  2. Check that the installation of the clamps corresponds in order to phases 1, 2 and 3 of the installation.

  3. Check the orientation of the current clamps, so that the marked arrow is facing the direction of the cable's current.

  4. Ensure that the voltage and current sensor connectors are properly inserted into the meter.

For more information, you can refer to the Max Installation Manual .

2. Testing the installation via the platform

Once the meter is installed, the Wibeee Nest platform allows you to validate the installation of these meters through the three-phase test tool. To run the test:

  1. Access the Configuration screen.

  2. On the device to be validated, click on the Three-phase test button and run the test. This button will only appear on the Box Tri and Max three-phase meters.

The platform displays the three-phase test result on the screen:

3. Troubleshooting

The installation will not be correct if the test detects a problem in the order of the clamps (1-2-3) or in the direction of any of the clamps.

Two or more channels with PF less than 0,6 (in absolute value).

The order of the clamps of those channels with PF less than 0.6 is not correct.

Changing the clamp order of those channels with PF less than 0.6.

One or more channels with negative PF.

The direction of the clamp(s) with negative PF is incorrect.

Changing the direction of the clamps via App or manually from the control panel.

Changing the clamp order

Two channels in the wrong order

If you have one channel with a PF close to 1 and two channels with a PF lower than 0.6, the order of the latter two channels must be swapped:

  1. If channel 1 has a PF lower than 0.6, the installation must be rectified manually.

  1. If channels 2 and 3 have a PF of less than 0.6, it is possible to change the order of clamps 2 and 3 via App.

Three channels in wrong order

The order of the clamps must be corrected manually and the test must be run again until one of the clamps is in the correct position.

Changing the order of the clamps 2 and 3 via App

  1. Access the Settings screen.

  2. Access the Advanced settings by clicking on the top right icon.

  3. Click on Change phase order.

  4. Select 1-3-2 and save the changes.

  5. Run the three-phase check again to validate the installation.

Changing the direction of the clamps

Changing the direction of the clamps via App

For channels with negative PF, the orientation of the current clamps must be reversed.

  1. Access the Configuration screen.

  2. On the meter, on the channel to be inverted, click on the Current direction icon (Arrows). This icon will not appear for meters with an incompatible Firmware version.

  3. In the pop-up window, select the Reverse direction option and save the changes.

  1. Run the three-phase check again to validate the installation.
